Conservatorships in South Lake Tahoe

LPS Conservatorship (Lanterman-Petris-Short Act)

Challenging, Modifying, or Terminating an LPS Conservatorship

An LPS Conservatorship, under the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act, can be imposed upon you if it is proven that you suffer from a mental disorder that renders you gravely disabled (unable to provide care for your own food, shelter, and clothing). An LPS Conservatorship is a severe deprivation of important rights in the Conservatee's life, including but not limited to the right to choose where to live, the right to refuse medical treatment, and the right to manage their own finances.

If the Government is trying to put you in an LPS Conservatorship, or if you are already a Conservatee in an LPS Conservatorship, you still have the right to challenge or modify the Conservatorship.

An attorney can help present your case in court, or get the Conservatorship terminated without having to go to court.

Initiating an LPS Conservatorship

Alternatively, if you have a loved one who needs an LPS Conservatorship, an experienced attorney can assist you in initiating an LPS Conservatorship in South Lake Tahoe. An attorney can help present your case in court, or get the Conservatorship initiated without having to go to court.

Probate Conservatorship

A probate conservatorship is a court proceeding where a judge appoints a person (the conservator) to manage the personal care and/or finances (the estate) of an adult (the conservatee) who is unable to care for themselves. This legal action is taken when an individual cannot manage their own affairs due to incapacity and lacks alternatives like a durable power of attorney. The process involves a petition to the court, appointment of a conservator, and ongoing court supervision to ensure the conservatee's well-being and financial stability

An attorney can represent your interests in court. Contact South Tahoe Law if you need a Probate Conservatorship for a loved one, or if you are challenging the initiation of a Probate Conservatorship, or if you are challenging the terms of a Probate Conservatorship.
